First off.... thank you all for praying for Landen!!! He is healthy and fought of the upper respiratory virus like a champ!!
Today we had his pre-cath testing. He had blood work (without a single wince or tear), height/weight and sats (81 which is higher than the last couple weeks), EKG, chest x-ray, and an echo. Landen whirled through all that like it was a day at the park. We were up at Boston Childrens at 7:15 and walked out at 11:00 and were home to all sit at the table for lunch together.
We are scheduled for his Cardiac Cath tomorrow. He is first on the list so that is great! There are many things they will be looking for in the cath. They will check all the pressures of his heart, see if there are any areas that may have some restrictions or blocking and if they do they will correct them. They will look at all the basic layout of his anatomy to make sure there will be no complications with the Fontan procedure. Also, something common with a singular ventricular heart, is that as his body has been lacking in oxygenated blood it begins to grow collateral vessels that are trying to get more blood to his lungs to be oxygenated. These collateral vessles, while pretty amazing that our body does this, can be counter productive and so if they find any they will need to coil and close them off. It is hard to know who will develop them and who will not. Landen had a couple before his 2nd surgery but they did not feel the need to coil them at that time. One of the harder parts we can forsee tomorrow is that we will have to keep Landen laying down for 4-6 hours after the procedure. As many of you know, Landen is an active little boy so this might prove difficult for a bit. If they do not find any collateral vessels to coil then we will be able to go home at the end of the day! But if they do it will be an overnight stay and home on Saturday.
We are all ready to take on this process and be on the other end. Everything looked great today and it was a good start. We are hopeful and faithful and can not thank you all enough for your prayers!!
Thank you!
