Day 2 Post Opperation

What a great day today was!  Landens color is back and the nursing staff from today was fantastic as usual.  Last night was kinda a tough night.  He did need to be bagged once and his respirator settings needed to be modified as he was not doing well and was holding to much fluid in his tissue and lungs.  Once the day nurse started (Vicki) she took charge and got his PH levels back up.  We learned that Landen does not do great with PH below 7.34  Honestly, I really don't know how that all works, but all I do know is that with his PH up to 7.4 or higher and the many other monitoring numbers they are tracking where they are....he is on his way to recovery!

Maddie had a writers showcase today, so I ran down to Raynham to surprise here for the reading.  It almost brought tears to my eyes to see how excited she was to see me sitting in the front row.  Afterwards she and I got some ice cream and sat by the lake.  She's such a big girl now, and I can't tell you all how blessed we are to have her as the oldest.  Lyla is so much more well adjusted with her big sister there to care for her when she needs it.  Lyla has of course been in fantastic hands with Skip and Lori, but every now and then I think it's good that big sis is around to help :) (although the two of them together could power a small town with their energy!)....they are keeping their grandparents young!

Ashley had a great afternoon here with Landen and had a chance to see him start to show signs of waking up.  He is off all sedation but will likely stay pretty sleepy for the next 8ish hours.  The hope is that tomorrow they will pull his breathing tube (Extubate), and possibly eat by mouth as well!  Lets pray that he has that opportunity, as it would be a great way to start the weekend.  He also started getting Ashley's milk through a feeding tube today as well!

Most nights when I leave the house to come back up to Boston it is dark, but tonight it was just sunset.  As I drove by the lake down the street I couldn't help but take a picture.  What a beautiful site!  One day I plan on having that boat done (long story, but Maddie and I are rebuilding an old  13.5' Boston Whaler) and taking the kids out for an evening fishing.  I don't care if I catch a thing, but sitting there tonight looking at that lake, it made me so thankful for all that I have.  God has blessed me beyond what I could have ever asked for and THAT is something I will never take for granted!  I may have moments where I am stressed, scared and selfish but I hope I never forget to seek the good in every situation and remember that a selfless life is far greater than a selfish one.

Enjoying the journey,
George, Ashley, Maddie, Lyla and Landen!
