So close, yet so far!

Happy Saturday all!  I hope everyone is enjoying some fall weather as I know the trees up here in Boston are peaking this weekend and it is amazing (even if we only enjoy it on the drive up).  We have not updated in a couple days and some of you are curious, so here is the latest :)

24 hours after the bi-directional Glenn Procedure!
Landen has officially graduated to the floor!  He is out of the CICU here at Childrens and is now on the cardiac unit floor for observation.  Over the last several days prior to leaving the CICU yesterday he had most of his tubes and IV's removed.  In fact, for those interested he has had the following tubes or IV's in since Wednesday; 3 peripheral IV's (both feet and one wrist), 3 Chest tubes, 3 Central lines including an intracardiac line (a central IV directly to his heart) and a urinary catheter!  Makes me itchy just thinking about it. At this point, the only thing he has left of the 10 different lines is an peripheral IV so they have access, but you can be sure that given the chance he would rip that thing out! :)  What is amazing to us, and to many here at Childrens, is that he had most of this out only 24 hours after his surgery with no issues.  This did cause us to ask "what is the fastest recovery you have seen from the Glenn?" and according to our team, the fastest they can remember is 4.5 days but most are 7-10 days.  This means that if he were discharged tomorrow he would break the record!  The only bummer is that they don't do sedated echo's on the weekends as they have to be done in the cardiac clinic or in the catheter lab.  If they did, he could likely have been discharged today which would make him the fastest recovery by ALMOST an entire two days (this is based of our teams memory and not official recorded fact)!

Well, since we wont be able to break the record due to hospital resource restrictions, I guess its time to just enjoy the time while we are here.  Last night I had an amazing evening with just Maddie and Lyla.  They had a taste of the times before Landen when we were able to do daddy daughter dates a little more often.  Those days will come again, but for now I cant be more proud of the two of them.  Now it is Ashley's turn!  She is home tonight while I stay up here as the change of guard continues for our little man.

Tomorrow will be a LONG day.  He is clearly doing so well that he is ready to be home I think.  We will take some walks around the hospital and watch some football (have a little guy time!).  Likely Ashley and I will switch at some point as well.  Lets hope that by Monday night we are all HOME!  That would be truly amazing seeing as not long ago his chest was open to the air and was being worked on by one of the most talented cardiac surgeons in the country.  Thank you all for your prayers as they have played a large part in his success!  We give God the glory for this, while also acknowledging that he has given us a tremendously strong little man.  I believe it takes both as you cant steer a ship that's not moving and he CLEARLY is moving! ;)

Enjoying the journey,
George, Ashley, Madison, Lyla and Landen (aka Superman)!
